Idukki

Idukki,the district of Kerala is situated on the top of Western Ghats. Idukki is very famous about its dam and other travel destinations. The arch dam in Idukki made between the Kuravan and Kurathi Mountain. The district is very famous about it's mountains and dense forests. The word Idukki came from the Malayalam word idukku which means narrow space. It is blessed with naturebeauty. People can see flora and fauna in better range. Idukki district was formed in 26 January 1972.

Geography

It has an area of 4479km2, which is the second largest district in the state. 97% of the districts are mountains and forests. There are only roadways to access the district. Thalayar, periyar and Thodupuzhayar are the main rivers in the Idukki district. As per the 2011 census the population is 1,107,453.

Thattekad Bird Sanctuary

It is located on the northern bank of the Periyar River. This is the first bird sanctuary in the Kerala, having variety of birds. The place covers the area of 25km2. It is around 12 kilometer from the Kothamangala. So many people come to the park for studies and holidays.

Eravikulam Wild life Sanctuary
