Pathanamthitta

The district is located in the southern part of Kerala. It shares the border with Thamil Nadu in the east, Kollam in the south,Alappuza in the west and Kottayam and Idukki in the north. The famous pilgrimage center Sabarimala is located in this district. The world of Pathanamthitta derived from the two Malayalam words such as Pathanam means ten families and Thitta means array.

History

The places were under the ruling of Pandalam reign, which had connections with the Pandya kingdom. In 1820 it is added to the district of Pathanamthitta is formed on November 1, 1982. Places adopted from Kollam and Alappuzha district. It covers the area of 2,637 square kilometers. 50 % of the district is the forest area.

Major Attractions

Gavi: The beautiful village is located in Pathanamthitta district. The hill area is very attractive, beautiful and pristine in nature. The place is very famous in its unique beauty of flora and fauna. It will give satisfaction for jungle trekkers, birdwatchers, nature lovers, research students and others. The hills areas are more attractive with tea and coffee plantations. The unique feature of the Gavi tourism is the night-camping in the forests. The forest includes animals like elephants, tigers, leopards, Indian gaur, bears, lion tailed macaque and other type of animals.
Konni:It is very famous for elephants and timber industry. The place is very famous for elephant training Kerala. The hill station is located on the river bank of Achankovil. There are clove and pepper plantations around the place. It is an emerging tourist location in Kerala especially for trekking camps.

Aruvikuzhy Waterfalls

The simple and beautiful waterfall is located in the Pathanamthitta. It keeps 11 kilometer distance from Kozhencherry town.

Sabarimala

It is one of the famous Hindu pilgrimage places in Kerala.It is around 40 kilometer away from the Erumeli. The place is located in Western Ghats. Vishu Vilakku, Mandalapooja and Makaravilakku are the famous festival in Sabarumala.

Parumala

The famous Parumala Palli is located in this district. It is around 10 kilometer from thiruvalla. Mar Gregorios Metropolitan the well know saint of Malankara Orthodox Church whose feast is celebrating on the 1st and 2nd of November.

Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls

The simple beauty of waterfalls is located in the small district. It is around 36 km away from the city of the district. "The Great Honey Stream" is the word meaning of the Perumthenaruvi Waterfalls. The height of the waterfalls is 60-100 ft. It is accessible by road from the Pathanamthitta
